Getting to know each other!!!
Over the past week we have been settling in as a new class and getting to know each other. This has involved ice breaker games, and revision of punctuation and grammar in literacy and place value in numeracy. As a class we have made a time capsule which contains, acrostic poems, our hopes for P6/7 and interviews of each child in the class. We will be opening our time capsule in June 2017. We can't wait...
On Tuesday, the class had a great day visiting and learning more about our local harbour as part of our Happy Harbours Topic. The pupils were given a tour of all parts of the harbour by Ardglass Harbour Master John Smith, they explored some of the equipment used by trawlers, as well as safety equipment that can be used in an emergency. Everyone's favourite part was rolling up their sleeves for the touch tank, which had lots of interesting sea creatures. Afterwards, the class were invited to the Fishermen's Mission for a snack pack and had the opportunity to ask the Harbour Master questions to find out more about his role, they also presented safety tips they created in class to help others stay safe around the harbour. A great experience for all!
Today, the class started their new World Around Us topic for the Summer Term and all are looking forward to learning more about our local harbour, an important part of the community and identity of Ardglass. We had a visit today from Rosemary Scott of the Fishery Harbour Authority to introduce the topic and the pupils are looking forward to visiting the harbour over the coming weeks.
The P6 & 7 class had a special treat for reaching a target on ClassDojo. The pupils have been earning their points with positive behaviour, good participation and looking out for each other. The class will now be working hard towards their next target in the Summer Term, well done!
