Admissions Criteria

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we have been advised to unfortunately not hold an Open Morning for new Year 1 pupils and their parents but we will host a Virtual Open Morning which will be available online on our Facebook Page / School Website from Friday 11th December 2020

 

School Tours for incoming P1 pupils and their families can be booked through the School Office for the week of Monday 14th December to Thursday 18th December from 2pm onwards in the afternoons. Telephone Conferences with our Primary 1 Teachers and Mr Kevin Burns our Principal are also possible upon request. All necessary protocols relating to current PHA Guidelines relating to Covid-19 will be in place. 

 

The Education Authority now has an Online Application Process.  Please don’t hesitate to ask for advice at any time regarding Applying Online and Enrolling your child in Primary 1.  We are here to help!

 

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA

During the admissions procedure when applying the criteria punctual applications will be considered before late applications are considered.   The application procedure opens on 7 January 2021 at 12noon (GMT) and an application submitted by the closing date of 29 January 2021 at 12noon (GMT) will be treated as a punctual application.   An application received after 12noon (GMT) on 29 January 2021 will be treated as a late application.

 

Y1 INTAKE

In the event of oversubscription, the following criteria will be applied in the order set down 1-4 by the Board of Governors of St Nicholas' Primary School, Ardglass to select children for admission to Y1 in September 2021. 

 

  1. Children of compulsory school age who normally reside in the parish of Dunsford & Ardglass or children who have brother(s)/sister(s), half-brother(s)/sister(s) presently enrolled in St Nicholas’ PS, Ardglass or who are themselves currently attending Ardglass Pre-School.
  2. Children of compulsory school age whose parent/guardian is presently a member of the school teaching/ancillary/ auxiliary staff or staff member of Ardglass Pre-School.
  3. Children of compulsory school age from other areas outside the parish regarded by the Board of Governors, on the basis of supporting evidence by parents and statutory agencies, as having special circumstances (medical, social, security factors) that necessitates attendance at St Nicholas’ Primary School.
  4. Children of compulsory school age from outside the parish.

 
In the event of over-subscription in any one of the criteria, taken in order, the following sub-criteria will be applied in the order set down. 
 
SUB-CRITERIA

  1. Children regarded by the Board of Governors, on the basis of supporting evidence by parents and statutory agencies, as having special circumstances (medical, social, security factors) that necessitates attendance at St Nicholas’ Primary School.
  2. Children whose parent(s)/guardian(s), brother(s) / sister(s), half-brother(s) / sister(s) are prior pupils of the school.
  3. Children selected on the basis of the closeness of the home to the school as measured by distance travelling

            by road using the tool Google Maps.  If two children should live equal distance from the school the final

            decision will be made by a ballot.

DUTY TO VERIFY

 

The Board of Governors reserves the right to require such supplementary evidence as it may determine to support or verify information on any application.  If the requested information is not provided to the Board of Governors by the deadline given, this will result in the withdrawal of an offer of a place.  Similarly, if information is supplied which appears to be false or misleading in any material way, the offer of a place will be withdrawn.

This Policy is available from the school.

 

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR Y2-Y7 INTAKE

The same criteria 1-4, excluding reference to compulsory school age will be applied, in the same sequential order, by the Board of Governors of St Nicholas' Primary School in selecting children for admission to Y2-Y7 in September 2021 as will be applied for admission to Y1.

NB: It is the parents' responsibility to ensure that any information relevant to the criteria is included on the Application Form or attached to that Form.
