Confirmation for Primary 7 Pupils
Our pupils in P7 have been busy preparing for Confirmation which takes place next Tuesday at 11am at St Mary's Church Dunsford this year. (School will be open for all other pupils this year).
Pupils have been learning their prayers, songs and hymns and creating an Art Display over the past few weeks. They have also focused on letter writing as part of their Confirmation activities.
This morning they posted letters to their Sponsors inviting them to attend their special day and informing them of their important role in this celebration.
The pupils who walked down to the Post Office this morning got treated to a Hot Chocolate from Mr Burns for helping post the letters for the class.
Good luck everyone on your Confirmation Day!
🐣After School Science Club🐣
February is National Bird Feeding Month. Natural food sources such as insects are scarce, so homemade bird feeders are ideal for helping birds.
The KS1 children made some 'fat balls' in their after school club with Miss O'Neill and Mrs Taggart. They were excited about taking them home!
Congratulations to our Super Students this week: Nathan, Liam, Odhran, Kyle, Shanta and Caragh. Playground award went to Zuzia. Well done everyone 👍
🙏**Grandparents Assembly **🙏
We celebrated Catholic Schools Week in school and finished with our Grandparents Assembly. There was a fantastic turn out and the children enjoyed singing and performing in front their grandparents and families. We hope you had a good afternoon visiting the classes.
Lots of congratulations for our pupils this week. Well done to our Super Students: Daithi, Charlie, McKenzie, Kagen and Dylan. Playground Award was presented to Colleen.
🏊Certificates were also awarded to the P5/6 class in recognition for their swimming classes in the first term of school. 🏊♀️
💯Some children also received 100% attendance certificates for their full attendance at school during the first term. 💯
🎭Mrs Wilson's class also held their Parental Assembly this afternoon on 'Victorian Life.' The children have been learning about this in their WAU topic. The boys and girls show pieced a fantastic display of acting, singing and poetry recital on this topic. We were all amazed at how great it was. Well done boys, girls, Mrs Wilson and Miss O'Neill! 👍
Since September, Miss McGrady has been using 'Class Dojo' as a behaviour management tool in the classroom, reinforcing positive behaviour at St Nicholas'. Children can be assigned 'dojo's' throughout their lessons by: listening well, completing set tasks, handing in completed homework each day, attending school and using excellent manners.
Information is recorded on students' profiles which are set as 'avatars' which can be reviewed throughout the year.
It has been a huge success and has had a positive and beneficial effect on the children's learning.
The children decided on their own 'rewards' after they received 1000 dojos. When they reached the first 1000, their reward was 30 minutes extra play in the yard. 2000 dojos was time spent in the ICT Suite playing fun, interactive games. They were recently awarded 3000 dojo points and they wanted a 'Pizza Party!' Today they received their wish and pizzas were ordered and delivered to the school from Dominoes Pizza in Downpatrick. They all loved it and had a great time. What willl the children choose for earning 4000 dojo points?! Wait and see!
Local dentists from Mullan and Gallagher Dental Surgery visited our Primary 1 Class as part of their WAU topic on 'Dentists.'
The boys and girls had a great day and were shown how to look after their teeth properly by brushing and eating well. The children enjoyed listening to the Dentists reading stories and getting to use the big toothbrush to clean a very big set of teeth! Thanks for coming to visit us.
🎅🏻Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day🎅🏻
The children joined in with the festive spirit by wearing their Christmas jumpers in school today.
The ladies from the canteen prepared a delicious banquet of Christmas food for the children and staff. There were lots of 'seconds' ordered with clean plates galore. Thanks to our hardworking canteen staff for all they do for us. 🍽👍😋
