Today P2 pupils made their very own Easter 🧺 Baskets. They decorated them and added their own personal touches, very colourful creations! 🐰 

Narrative Writing ✍️

We have focusing on our independent writing skills over the last week. We discussed how we need to

incorporate characters, a setting and an interesting plot to write a story. 
We introduced the topic by getting the pupils to work in groups and select 4 character pictures and a setting. They then worked in teams to develop an interesting story. 

For the plenary of our lesson each team verbally presented their story to the class! 📚 Superb presentation!

For our next Literacy lesson we focused on the importance of  ‘Character Profiles’ - behaviour, personality, traits and what they look

like.  P2 worked in pairs and individually to develop their own ‘Character Profile’.

We are all unique. In class we have been discussing differences and similarities between our friends. We talked about physical differences ie. hair colour, eye colour and height but also discussed how we are similar. The children in P2 came up with lots of ideas. ‘We like similar games and sports ⚽️ and favour certain subjects in school 🏫’. These are all the types of things that make us unique. 
P2 pupils then designed their own unique, creative Elmer for our class display… 👀…

 STEM

We carried out an experiment in class to find out if certain objects would SINK of FLOAT. We each made our own prediction and then tested it to find the correct answer.  The children were extremely enthusiastic and really enjoyed the experiment…. 👀…

VENN DIAGRAMS

This week we introduced Venn diagrams and made our own. We sorted different types of animals - farm animals, pets or both.

P2 had a number challenge to make sets of creepy crawlies with only 10 legs. They had to see how many different variations they could make. What a challenge and what an outcome… they exceeded my expectations I’m delighted to say! Super range of answers P2!!

During this topic we have been learning all about the various animals who live in the woods.  We read the story THE GRUFFALO and made our very own woodland display with a range of different nocturnal animals.  We also created our own terrible creatures and described their main features.

We have been learning about non-standard units of measurement. We have used a range of measuring tools to estimate different lengths.  As a team we set ourselves a challenge to organise the class from the SMALLEST to the TALLEST.

World Around Us

We ventured out to our Eco Garden this week to help Jack pick some berries that had grown on the over grown beanstalk. We couldn’t believe our 👀 eyes. There were loads.  The children thought it would be a great 💡 idea to make blackberry jam! 👍 (Next week).... to be continued...

We have been learning all about NOCTURNAL and DIURNAL animals. We found out lots of interesting facts about OWLS and compiled our own factual report. We had lots of fun making our very own owls for our class display.

This week we again our focus on narrative writing. We discussed using a range of templates and referred back to our planning board to help scaffold our ideas. To help spark our imaginations we used story cubes to help us choose characters, places and describe our scenes. As a whole class we started with a shared piece of writing and then worked in pairs to make our own.... 👀 at the super stories we came up with!

Primary 2 are working hard to recognise shapes by their properties. 

       🍬 M & M Lesson 🍬 

Today we taught a lesson using M&M sweets to show children that you can’t judge friends by how they look.  I offered the pupils 2 boxes - 1 crinkled, shabby box and the other nicely wrapped in shiny paper.  Although the shiny box looked nice in the outside it was filled with rubbish and orange peels inside. However the shabby looking box 📦 had  yummy M & M ‘s that they all got to enjoy!  A value lesson for all!

In P2 we have been using the Puppetpal App to make our own fairytales.  The pupils came up with some fantastic story lines.  They selected their own  characters and recorded their voices using great expression. They then shared the finished masterpieces with the rest of the class. Excellent fun! 🤩

This week I would encourage all P2 children to focus on their READING.  A fun, exciting and free way to enhance and develop these   skills is through our Reading Challenge! 📚 

The Reading Agency and Libraries have announced their 2020 Reading Challenge!

This is a great opportunity to promote reading for children of all ages throughout the summer! Reading is such an important skill for all children and should feel fun and exciting! Therefore, we are asking you all to take part in 'The Silly Squad!'

'The Silly Squad' will focus on funny books, happiness and laughter! It will be run through a safe online platform which allows for exciting interactive reading experiences, including eBooks and audiobooks. There will be online activities, videos, quizzes, games and rewards to unlock along the way. Every child who completes their own Challenge will receive a downloadable certificate.

GROW IN LOVE:

May is the month of Mary.  The Catholic  Church sets aside the entire month of May to honour Mary, Mother of God.  With your family say Mary's prayer 'The Hail Mary' and colour some of the May pictures below.
