🀩 Exciting News! 🀩

We have some exciting news this week! We have a new PE 1/4 zip to announce for all pupils this week! This can be worn every day and will help us look good and stay comfy for PE and after schools etc!

Please follow the link below for details on how to order:

https://www.stnicholaspsardglass.com/news/detail/launch-of-new-pe-14-zip-for-pupils/

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ Spelling βœπŸ–
I know you have all been working very hard on our spelling tests! This week I would like you all to focus on being able to spell our commonly used words! Please see the words below:

⭐ Subtracting βž–βž–βž–βž–
This week I would like you to focus on your subtraction work.
Here's a few things to remember:
πŸ”ΉοΈ It can be called subtraction, taking away, finding the difference or make less.
πŸ”ΉοΈ You cannot start with a smaller number. Always start with the big number.
For example:
Find the difference between 32 and 62.
You need to do 62-32 βœ…
You cannot work out 32-62 ❌ (yet!)
πŸ”ΉοΈ If it is a difficult sum like:
85- 12
You can break up the sum!
We know we can break 12 into 10 and 2.
So, we can take away 10. So, 85-10= 75
Then, we are left with 75, so 75-2= 73.

⭐ End of Year Project - πŸπŸœπŸ–πŸ—»πŸ—πŸŒƒ
Continue to work on your end of year project to Create Your Own Planet!
I can't wait to see the results!

Stay safe

😊 Monday Message - 8th June '20 😊

Remember, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries or would like to send me some pictures of all the hard work going on!
My email address is:
ccurran822@c2kni.net

I hope you got your new packs and are working your way through those! Please message if you have any questions regarding these!

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ Using Speech Marks
Practice your work on how to use speech marks!
Remember:
πŸ”ΉοΈWe call them 66 and 99's sometimes because of how the look!
πŸ”ΉοΈWe use them when someone is speaking!
πŸ”ΉοΈ There are lots of different ways to speak, if could be whispering, shouting, laughing or talking! They still need speech marks!
πŸ”ΉοΈ Here is an example:
You need to clean your room! said mum. ❌
"You need to clean your room!" said mum. βœ…

⭐ Greater than and Less than > <
Practice your greater than and less than number work!
Remember:
πŸ”ΉοΈ When we are looking at greater than and less than we use these symbols > < and =
πŸ”ΉοΈ So, let's look at an example: we have the number 17 and the number 9. We know that that 17 is bigger than 9.
So we would write 17 > 9 because 17 is greater than 9.
πŸ”ΉοΈ If we has the number 1 and 5.
We know that 1 is less than 5. So we would write 1 < 5.

⭐ End of Year Project - πŸπŸœπŸ–πŸ—»πŸ—πŸŒƒ
Continue to work on your end of year project to Create Your Own Planet!
I can't wait to see the results!

Stay safe

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all keeping good at home!

This week you will have a new home learning back with some revision packs and some end of year tests!

⭐ Literacy- Comprehension πŸ“–

Continue to work on your reading skills and how to understand what you read!

For example: Who climbed the Beanstalk?

'Jack climbed up the Beanstalk'

Is a much better answer than 'Jack'

Remember to read the question carefully!

Is it adding or taking away?

Count VERY carefully!

Remember to use your 100 square to help you!

4. What activities do you do on your planet?

   πŸ“š Monday Message- 11th May πŸ“š

Hey everyone,

Hope you are keeping well and enjoyed a beautiful Bank Holiday Weekend! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

I received so many beautiful pictures last week and so many great projects on the cages vs dogs debate! So well done to everyone! Remember please message my email with any lovely pictures or questions you have! It can be found at the top of this page! 😊

This week:

⭐ Literacy- Comprehension

I have attached a comprehension based on our topic 'Jazzy Jellyfish!' Please read the comprehension carefully and answer the questions.

⭐ Numeracy- Tens and Units

This is a good chance to recap our knowledge of tens and units, and maybe if you work really hard you could even look at hundreds, tens and units!

Let's look at an example:

The number 87

We split the number into TENS and UNITS

                                    T    U

 So we have 8 tens> 8    7 < so we have 7 units

Remember that the 8 isnt just 8...its 8 sets of ten so is actually the number 80!

⭐ World Around Us- Acrostic Poems

This week I would like you to create your own seaside themed acrostic poem!

Each line must begin with the different letters in the word seaside!

I have attached a template that you can use as a guide or print off and use!

Stay Safe,

Miss Curran πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

     πŸŒˆMonday Message- 4th May 🌈

Hi everyone,
I hope you are all safe and well! I know you are all working so hard and having some fun at home!

Remember, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries or would like to send me some pictures of all the hard work going on!
My email address is:
                        ccurran822@c2kni.net

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ May Alter 🌺🌼
Fr McCloskey has encouraged the children to get involved in creating their own May Alter in their home. They can use things already in the house. If you don’t have a statue at home you can print out a picture of Mary and stick it to a piece of cardboard or put it in a frame.
Photos of your May Alter can be shared with Fr on the Parish facebook page or can be sent to myself and I can share with Fr Mccloskey.

⭐ What make better pets, cats or dogs? πŸ•πŸˆ
This term we would have been working on our persuasive writing skills. We would be working on how to persuade and make an audience think a certain way!
This week I would like you to work on this style of writing through the topic 'What makes better pets, cats or dogs?'

I have enclosed worksheets on this in your recent packs.

There is a planning sheet which pupils can plan their ideas on, maybe you want to discuss this topic as a family? Have a vote? Ring a relative and ask them what they think?

Pupils can then use the next lined sheet with the same title to write their ideas in full!

⭐ Multiplication 2οΈβƒ£βŒ5️⃣
This week I would like you to work on your multiplication skills!
I have enclosed worksheets on the 2,5 and 10 times tables in your latest packs and I would like you to complete these!
Using the arrays worksheets can be helpful as it helps visualise the multiplication sum!
For example: 6 x 2
Using arrays or simple drawings can help!

πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄ The pupil can now work
πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄ out 6 groups of 2!

⭐ The Great White Shark 🦈
This week I would like you to write and draw some facts about the great white shark! I would love to see some super scary facts!
Here is a link I found to help: https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/animals/sea-life/great-white-sharks/

Hi there,

I know for many this will be a hard time and I wanted to send a little message to all my class in terms they would understand! I hope this may help explain things a little more to them!

"My favourite movie is 'Toy Story'. I love to watch Woody and the Gang! We know that Woody is a rootin, tootin cowboy, but deep down he is just a big softie!

I remember when Woody, Buzz, Rex and the rest of the gang had to stay apart for a while until a big problem could be solved! When they did come back, they were even better than ever!

This is one of those times. We have to stay apart for a little while to make sure that we can come back together again and be better than ever! Everyone is worried about a bug that is making people sick and doctors and nurses are all working very hard to try and find a cure, and we know they will!

But until we do, we have to be apart as a gang for a little while. We have to be brave and listen to the people in charge who are trying to keep everybody safe!

I will be teaching you a little bit differently for a little while but I hope you know I am still here, teaching, listening and caring for you all!"

I can't wait to see you all soon!

The child all gave good suggestions about how the can stay safe in these situations and it was made clear that they are never alone and should always tell a trusted adult!

We also heard how we should all 'Take a Minute' to switch off our screens and relax when it all gets too much!

Grandparents Day ❀

As part of Catholic Schools Week, we loved having our grandparents and loved ones with us to work!

We focused on the story of The Lost Sheep to help understand Our First Penance!

Today we had our first sign language class! The boys and girls loved learning to sign the alphabet and sing the alphabet song! Super Spellers and Magic Mathematicians! πŸ’«

Today we celebrated our termly spelling and mental maths awards! These awards are given to pupils who work extremely hard in these areas and have achieved top results! We had a discussion about why it is important to work hard in these areas and aim high in all areas including work and behaviour!

πŸ“šLearning Together Afternoon πŸ“š

On Friday, we came together with our parents, guardians and loved ones to learn together! We listened to the story of 'Supertato and the Carnival Castro-pea', then worked hard at creating our own veggie superhero costumes! We had tons of fun!

πŸŽƒHalloween Problem SolvingπŸŽƒ

We really enjoyed our problem solving lesson with Mr Burns! We worked in teams to make magic potions! βš—

The children had to use spiders, lizards and bats to make their concoctions but were only allowed to use 24 legs!

It was great to see the pupils develop their problem solving, communication and team work skills!

🌍World Culture Day🌍

As part of our World Culture Day Celebrations we sampled breads from around the world! 🍞πŸ₯πŸ₯–πŸ₯¨πŸ₯―

The children loved sampling naan bread, Wheaten bread, Baguette, Croissant, potato bread and pancakes! The children all voted for their favourite bread and we created a class tally using our mathematical skills! Naan bread was the class favourite, but the kids say the canteens was nicer than Miss Currans!
