πŸ’΅ Miss Curran’s Bakery πŸ’΅

Today the boys and girls had a chance to visit Miss Curran’s bakery. They all had a chance to visit the shop and pay for their buns by making different amounts of money!

This helped teach the pupils important lessons such as recognising coins and creating amounts as well as the important social skill of paying for goods! Oh and it was yummy! πŸ€—

Learning our FUN-damentals!

Today in PE we focused on some of our

FUN-damentals! We focused on our jumping skills working on jumping from 2 feet to 2 feet, 1 foot to 2 feet, 2 feet to 1 foot and 1 foot to 1 foot! We also played Icebergs and Mr Men to get us nice and warm!

πŸ’ž Class of 2020-21 πŸ’ž

Wow! What a strange and wonderful year we have had this year! I cannot believe this year is over already...it feels like we have just got started!
The boys & girls have worked like shooting stars this year and I am so proud of all the work they completed both in school and at home 🌟!
Thank you parents for all your support and all the teaching you did during at home learning!
I will miss our little class community so much but I just know you will all have the best year in Primary 4!
Have a happy, safe and sunny summer! 🌞

Miss Curran πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—

🌞Summer Fun in Primary 3! 🌞

Today we had some fun in the sun with our friends from Primary 1! We enjoyed some fun in the park, playing football, ice lollies in the community garden and then we had a yummy party at school!  We enjoyed watching the new Disney movie, Luca!

πŸͺ± Comma Critters πŸͺ±

Today we focused on using commas in a list by adding our fluffy little comma critters to our sentences in the correct places!

We really enjoyed using this fun approach!

βœοΈπŸ“ Primary Three RULE! πŸ“βœοΈ

This week we have been working very hard to learn how to use a ruler to measure and draw lines using centimetres!
We learnt that there is 100 centimetres in 1 metre and that a ruler is 30 cm long!
We looked at how to hold a ruler properly and how to measure and draw lines of different lengths! We worked in pairs to check each others work!

πŸ₯‡πŸ₯ˆπŸ₯‰ Look at our homemade medals πŸ₯‡πŸ₯ˆπŸ₯‰

πŸ”₯πŸ”₯Making our own Olympic TorchπŸ”₯πŸ”₯

We had lots of fun learning all about the Olympic torch and the why it exists today! We learnt that in Ancient Greece the torch was lit from the sun and torch bearers ran with it to the different competition points- similar to today!
We loved getting creative and making our own torches from paper and tissue paper!

🍱🍣 Sushi Tasting 🍱🍣

We just absolutely loved our sushi tasting experience as part of our topic, Life in Tokyo, looking at the host city for the 2021 Olympic Games! Our final topic of the year! We all gave it at least a little lick and some absolutely loved it! We all loved the chop sticks so Miss Curran is going to try and teach us to use these in the last 6 weeks of school!

🌲🌳🌸Outdoor Learning🌲🌳🌸

Look at all our fun and learning we are having outside! When we play, we learn so many skills for life! How to share, communication, negotiation skills, working with others and helping our confidence grow! As well as all the physical advantages to being outside!

⚽️ Dodgeball Week ⚽️

We loved our fun and exciting games with Jenny this week for Dodgeball Week! The Rainbow Drops and the Dodgeball champions really meant business!

Well done for all your hard work and preparation in school and at home! You all did so well!

πŸ«πŸ‡ Miss Curran’s Easter hunt πŸ‡πŸ«

Miss Curran managed to talk the Easter Bunny into leaving a few extra treats around the eco garden for primary 3! They had a fun search for their bunnies and eggs!

πŸ’šβ€οΈ Easter Bunny visit πŸ’šβ€οΈ

A huge thank you to the Easter bunny and Fiona and Michelle from Eurospar for our lovely Easter Egg hunt! We had so much fun hunting for eggs!

πŸ‡πŸ‡Clay Easter Bunny artπŸ‡πŸ‡

We had lots and lots of fun creating Easter Bunnies from clay! We had to sculpt and create our bunnies with lots of focus and using our best delicate fine motor skills! We had so much fun making these and enjoyed the messiness too of course! I am sure you will agree they look excellent and very cute!

🌈Q&A with Smriti Halls🌈

We absolutely loved the BookTrust event on Monday. We were able to have a question and answer session with real life author Smriti Hall! She was so lovely and answered all of our fantastic questions!
We had been completing lots of work, art and discussion on her story, Rain Before Rainbows, and even got our own copy to bring home! OH and we got to wear our pjs to school! What a great day!

πŸ₯ž Santa Pancakes πŸ₯ž

Today some of the boys and girls decorate Santa Pancakes! They loved using the squirt cream and seeing how big they could get Santa's beard! They didn't taste too bad either!

πŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈπŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈ Ho, Ho, Ho! πŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈπŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈ

A few snaps of our Christmas fun in Primary 3!

Holidays are coming...

We were working hard on comparing, estimating and weighing different objects in our class! This was great fun and we had lots do and say!

πŸ”΄βš«PE with Coach LiamπŸ”΄βš«

We absolutely love our weekly GAA sessions with coach Liam!

Liam teaches us all our fundamental skills and also teaches us important skills like listening and the importance of being part of a team!

Some future GAA stars in the making!

πŸŽ‚πŸ°πŸ§ Miss Curran's Bun Shop πŸ§πŸ°πŸŽ‚

This week we had been working hard on using our money skills to £1. To help practice these money skills, Primary 3 got a visit to Miss Curran's bun shop! Of course all the buns were home made (I promise πŸ˜„) and the boys and girls had to pay an individual price for each cake!

They really enjoyed it and they showed off some great skills! With a yummy treat too!

β˜• Hot chocolate treats! β˜•

This week we have been working on instructions and putting instructions in order correctly!

We were working on instructions to make hot chocolate!

Primary 3 worked very well to order their instructions correctly and as a special treat we were able to have some yummy hot chocolate! With cream and marshmallows too of course!

β¬†οΈβž‘οΈ Outside Learning! ⬅️⬇️

As part of our outdoor learning day, we took off outside to learn about directions, position and movement outside!

We played over and under and discussed the importance of verbal and non verbal directions.

Then we had a go at directing our friends around our school, making sure to use our left and right directions carefully!

Some boys and girls even had a go at directing Miss Curran! We even seen two cool para gliders! We discussed what directions they were going! P3 tried to call them our way for a chat but they must have been ignoring us!

πŸ“½πŸŽ¬ Lights, Camera, Action! πŸŽ¬πŸ“½

As part of our new topic, Primary 3 used their creativity to turn their favourite characters into puppets!

We had lots of fun doing this and then we had even more fun and laughter with our puppet show!

Our puppet show allowed us to build our creativity, work as a team, share ideas and listen to others!

⬇️⬅️ Mr Bee Directionsβž‘οΈβ¬†οΈ

We had lots of fun with our direction work today!

We learnt some helpful hints to remember our left and right directions, gave blindfolded directions to some of our classmates, and helped Mr Bee navigate his way!

We had lots and lots of fun and did super learning too! (Even if Mr Bee was silly and went the wrong way a few times on Miss Curran!)

We were very busy this week having lots of Halloween themed fun and work! We created our own monsters, wrote monster poems and even had Halloween comprehension!

We finished our week with a fun Halloween party with dancing, scary movies and pass the ghost!

I hope everyone enjoys a happy and safe Halloween break! πŸŽƒ

πŸ“•Happy HomeworkπŸ“•

Primary Three have been working so hard on their homework at home and using our Google Classroom! Have a look at all those fab question sentences and beautiful Saint Fact Files! Well Done Boys & Girls!

🀸‍♂️Boys and Girls come out to play!

In Our Eco Garden, HORRAY! 🀸‍♀️

We had the most exciting day EVER! We were the first class in our school to get out and play in our new eco garden!

We had so much fun and the photos speak for themselves!

❗ Important Information β—

Please see below for the guidance from PHA.

🦸‍♂️Playing like Superheroes 🦸‍♀️

Today we enjoyed some superhero themed activity based learning. We use our activities to teach many different things such as creativity, imagination, sharing and turn taking, as well as helping with our literacy, numeracy and world around us skills!

Today we had 5 super fun activities to choose from and I have to say P3 were fantastic with how well they completed their activities and their maturity during this time too!

Well done boys and girls!

🌍 Our Beautiful Eco Garden 🌍

This week we enjoyed a lovely VIP tour of our brand new eco garden before it opens next week!

We were so excited to see all the new amazing areas for us to play and learn in!

We heard a lovely story after we explored the different areas!

πŸ₯” Supertato Week πŸ₯”

We had lots of fun this week with our learning being focused around one of our favourite book collections, Supertato!

We did lots of fab work on this story and enjoyed creating traps to catch the evil pea, making new food superheroes and our where is supertato prepositions work!

The Evil Pea even snuck into our classroom to cause trouble!

Below you can see us play find the veggies in PE!

πŸ”΄β—Όβ—½πŸ”ΈοΈ Superhero Shape Cars πŸ”ΈοΈβ—½β—ΌπŸ”΄

Primary Three absolutely loved creating their own Superhero shape cars this week.

We have been focusing on recapping our knowledge of 2D shapes and so we used our knowledge to create our own shape car fit for a superhero!

We even expanded outside the world of cars and had superhero unicorns, buses, motorbikes and boats!

It was great fun! 😁

πŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ–±βŒ¨ Google ClassroomπŸ’»πŸ“±πŸ–±βŒ¨

We worked very hard today using the I-Pad's to get our Google Classroom up and running!

Google Classroom will be used to help learning at home in a fun and interactive way!

The children were absolute super stars at getting their usernames, passwords and class codes entered! They even sent me a lovely hello message! I was so proud 😁

Invisible Sam

Today we made the most of the sunshine 🌞 and got outside to complete some PDMU.

We met Sam. Sam is a P3 who keeps speaking negatively about himself and each time he does so, he disappears a little bit more!

We discussed what Sam could say to be more positive!

We then drew our own Sam and said a positive chant together!

πŸ”₯Superhero Circuits πŸ”₯

To begin our PE lessons this year, we focused on getting fit and healthy just like Superheroes do!

We did some super star jumps, fantastic frog leaps, magnificent marching, really quick running, jumping for joy and superman posing!

We had great fun!

🀩 Exciting News! 🀩

We have some exciting news this week! We have a new PE 1/4 zip to announce for all pupils this week! This can be worn every day and will help us look good and stay comfy for PE and after schools etc!

Please follow the link below for details on how to order:

https://www.stnicholaspsardglass.com/news/detail/launch-of-new-pe-14-zip-for-pupils/

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ Spelling βœπŸ–
I know you have all been working very hard on our spelling tests! This week I would like you all to focus on being able to spell our commonly used words! Please see the words below:

⭐ Subtracting βž–βž–βž–βž–
This week I would like you to focus on your subtraction work.
Here's a few things to remember:
πŸ”ΉοΈ It can be called subtraction, taking away, finding the difference or make less.
πŸ”ΉοΈ You cannot start with a smaller number. Always start with the big number.
For example:
Find the difference between 32 and 62.
You need to do 62-32 βœ…
You cannot work out 32-62 ❌ (yet!)
πŸ”ΉοΈ If it is a difficult sum like:
85- 12
You can break up the sum!
We know we can break 12 into 10 and 2.
So, we can take away 10. So, 85-10= 75
Then, we are left with 75, so 75-2= 73.

⭐ End of Year Project - πŸπŸœπŸ–πŸ—»πŸ—πŸŒƒ
Continue to work on your end of year project to Create Your Own Planet!
I can't wait to see the results!

Stay safe

😊 Monday Message - 8th June '20 😊

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all safe and well! I know you are all working so hard and having some fun at home! I miss you all so much!

Remember, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries or would like to send me some pictures of all the hard work going on!
My email address is:
ccurran822@c2kni.net

I hope you got your new packs and are working your way through those! Please message if you have any questions regarding these!

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ Using Speech Marks
Practice your work on how to use speech marks!
Remember:
πŸ”ΉοΈWe call them 66 and 99's sometimes because of how the look!
πŸ”ΉοΈWe use them when someone is speaking!
πŸ”ΉοΈ There are lots of different ways to speak, if could be whispering, shouting, laughing or talking! They still need speech marks!
πŸ”ΉοΈ Here is an example:
You need to clean your room! said mum. ❌
"You need to clean your room!" said mum. βœ…

⭐ Greater than and Less than > <
Practice your greater than and less than number work!
Remember:
πŸ”ΉοΈ When we are looking at greater than and less than we use these symbols > < and =
πŸ”ΉοΈ So, let's look at an example: we have the number 17 and the number 9. We know that that 17 is bigger than 9.
So we would write 17 > 9 because 17 is greater than 9.
πŸ”ΉοΈ If we has the number 1 and 5.
We know that 1 is less than 5. So we would write 1 < 5.

⭐ End of Year Project - πŸπŸœπŸ–πŸ—»πŸ—πŸŒƒ
Continue to work on your end of year project to Create Your Own Planet!
I can't wait to see the results!

Stay safe

🍎 Monday Message- 25th May '20🍎

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all keeping good at home!

This week you will have a new home learning back with some revision packs and some end of year tests!

So you can prepare for the end of year test, please focus on these topics this week:

⭐ Literacy- Comprehension πŸ“–

Continue to work on your reading skills and how to understand what you read!

Remember, always answer your questions with full answers!

For example: Who climbed the Beanstalk?

'Jack climbed up the Beanstalk'

Is a much better answer than 'Jack'

⭐ Numeracy- Word problems πŸ”ŽπŸ”Ž

Remember to read the question carefully!

Is it adding or taking away?

Count VERY carefully!

Remember to use your 100 square to help you!

⭐ End of year project -Create your own world project! πŸŒπŸ–πŸ•β›°πŸ§πŸπŸžπŸ›

You must tell me the following things about your planet:
1. What are the rules on your planet?
2. What does your planet look and feel like? (Is it warm, cold, purple or pink!)
3. What foods do you eat on your planet?
4. What activities do you do on your planet?
5. Who would live on your planet with you?

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ 🐻 OUR VIRTUAL FAMILY PICNIC 🐻
This week we would like to invite you all to have a picnic with your family! I can't wait to hear all about your picnics and see some lovely pictures!
As part of our big picnic I have set some picnic based work below!

⭐ Instructions
I would like you to write me some instructions on something you made for your picnic!
Maybe it will be:

It is totally up to you! I cannot wait to see all your instructional recipes

   πŸ“š Monday Message- 11th May πŸ“š

Hey everyone,

Hope you are keeping well and enjoyed a beautiful Bank Holiday Weekend! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

I received so many beautiful pictures last week and so many great projects on the cages vs dogs debate! So well done to everyone! Remember please message my email with any lovely pictures or questions you have! It can be found at the top of this page! 😊

This week:

⭐ Literacy- Comprehension

I have attached a comprehension based on our topic 'Jazzy Jellyfish!' Please read the comprehension carefully and answer the questions.

⭐ Numeracy- Tens and Units

This is a good chance to recap our knowledge of tens and units, and maybe if you work really hard you could even look at hundreds, tens and units!

Let's look at an example:

The number 87

We split the number into TENS and UNITS

                                    T    U

 So we have 8 tens> 8    7 < so we have 7 units

Remember that the 8 isnt just 8...its 8 sets of ten so is actually the number 80!

⭐ World Around Us- Acrostic Poems

This week I would like you to create your own seaside themed acrostic poem!

Each line must begin with the different letters in the word seaside!

I have attached a template that you can use as a guide or print off and use!

Stay Safe,

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ May Alter 🌺🌼
Fr McCloskey has encouraged the children to get involved in creating their own May Alter in their home. They can use things already in the house. If you don’t have a statue at home you can print out a picture of Mary and stick it to a piece of cardboard or put it in a frame.
Photos of your May Alter can be shared with Fr on the Parish facebook page or can be sent to myself and I can share with Fr Mccloskey.

⭐ What make better pets, cats or dogs? πŸ•πŸˆ
This term we would have been working on our persuasive writing skills. We would be working on how to persuade and make an audience think a certain way!
This week I would like you to work on this style of writing through the topic 'What makes better pets, cats or dogs?'

I have enclosed worksheets on this in your recent packs.

There is a planning sheet which pupils can plan their ideas on, maybe you want to discuss this topic as a family? Have a vote? Ring a relative and ask them what they think?

Pupils can then use the next lined sheet with the same title to write their ideas in full!

⭐ Multiplication 2οΈβƒ£βŒ5️⃣
This week I would like you to work on your multiplication skills!
I have enclosed worksheets on the 2,5 and 10 times tables in your latest packs and I would like you to complete these!
Using the arrays worksheets can be helpful as it helps visualise the multiplication sum!
For example: 6 x 2
Using arrays or simple drawings can help!

πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄ The pupil can now work
πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄ out 6 groups of 2!

New packs are available this week on Wednesday (22nd April) with loads more resources and stuff to focus on for the kids!

A few key things to focus on this week:

⭐ Reading πŸ“š
Please log on to Collins Connect or Bug Club and read every day! You can pick how you would like to do this, a book every day, half a book, ten books! Whatever you wish but if you would like somewhere to start, remember that we focus on 2 books per week. One book split across Monday and Tuesday and a new book on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday can be used to read a book together 😊

⭐ Time ⏰
This week I would like the kids to focus on the concept of time! A few things they should be able to do:
- Recognise the 'big' and 'small' hands as hour and minute hands.
- Recognise o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.
- Know that the clock works in 5 minute intervals and be able to count this around the clock.
- Know time facts such as 30 minutes in half an hour, 60 minutes in an hour, 15 minutes in a quarter and so on

⭐ Parts of a Fish 🐠
I have sent home a worksheet focusing on the parts of the fish in our new packs! In preparation for completing this I would like you to do some research on the different parts of a fish and the names of these parts!

⭐ Recapping the 'ai' sound πŸ’¬
Have a look over the ai sound! Here are some links to help:

Hi there,

I know for many this will be a hard time and I wanted to send a little message to all my class in terms they would understand! I hope this may help explain things a little more to them!

"My favourite movie is 'Toy Story'. I love to watch Woody and the Gang! We know that Woody is a rootin, tootin cowboy, but deep down he is just a big softie!

I remember when Woody, Buzz, Rex and the rest of the gang had to stay apart for a while until a big problem could be solved! When they did come back, they were even better than ever!

This is one of those times. We have to stay apart for a little while to make sure that we can come back together again and be better than ever! Everyone is worried about a bug that is making people sick and doctors and nurses are all working very hard to try and find a cure, and we know they will!

But until we do, we have to be apart as a gang for a little while. We have to be brave and listen to the people in charge who are trying to keep everybody safe!

I will be teaching you a little bit differently for a little while but I hope you know I am still here, teaching, listening and caring for you all!"

I can't wait to see you all soon!

As part of Safer Internet Day, Mr Sweeney, our ICT co-ordinator, came to teach P3 and P4 all about how we can stay safer online! We heard the story of the three little pigs getting mean messages, Goldilocks and scary images and Cinderella buying things online without permission!

The child all gave good suggestions about how the can stay safe in these situations and it was made clear that they are never alone and should always tell a trusted adult!

We also heard how we should all 'Take a Minute' to switch off our screens and relax when it all gets too much!

Grandparents Day ❀

As part of Catholic Schools Week, we loved having our grandparents and loved ones with us to work!

We focused on the story of The Lost Sheep to help understand Our First Penance!

We made sheep cupcakes and little fluffy sheep!

We introduced the concept of quarters and recapped what we already new about a half!

The best bit of this lesson was getting to eat our resources!

We have had a busy few weeks in Primary 3 getting ready for our fantastic Christmas Nativity and working hard! We have been learning all about instructions in literacy and as part of this we focused on two main things: How to Brush your teeth and How to make Hot Chocolate

In numeracy we have been working hard on numbers to 100 and learning directions, particularly left and right! In World Around Us we created our favourite characters using different methods such as painting, oil pastels, markers, paper and pencils!

Super Spellers and Magic Mathematicians! πŸ’«

Today we celebrated our termly spelling and mental maths awards! These awards are given to pupils who work extremely hard in these areas and have achieved top results! We had a discussion about why it is important to work hard in these areas and aim high in all areas including work and behaviour!

πŸ“šLearning Together Afternoon πŸ“š

On Friday, we came together with our parents, guardians and loved ones to learn together! We listened to the story of 'Supertato and the Carnival Castro-pea', then worked hard at creating our own veggie superhero costumes! We had tons of fun!

πŸŽƒHalloween Problem SolvingπŸŽƒ

We really enjoyed our problem solving lesson with Mr Burns! We worked in teams to make magic potions! βš—

The children had to use spiders, lizards and bats to make their concoctions but were only allowed to use 24 legs!

It was great to see the pupils develop their problem solving, communication and team work skills!

🌍World Culture Day🌍

As part of our World Culture Day Celebrations we sampled breads from around the world! 🍞πŸ₯πŸ₯–πŸ₯¨πŸ₯―

The children loved sampling naan bread, Wheaten bread, Baguette, Croissant, potato bread and pancakes! The children all voted for their favourite bread and we created a class tally using our mathematical skills!
